History

Clyn Glas is an old farmhouse which has been developed over the last two centuries. In the past it was connected to the local woollen industry and it is believed that weaving was carried out on the premises. It is situated in a spectacular position overlooking the valley where the Hiraeth stream runs on its journey to join the river Teifi. (A well renowned Salmon & Sea Trout river). The name "Clyn Glas"is derived from an old Welsh word -"clyne" - and means "Green Meadow".

The cottages at Clyn Glas have been adapted and extended from an old agricultural building which probably originally served as a cowshed.
The cottages have recently been refurbished to a very high standard. They both have their own gardens with B-B-Qs and garden furniture. There are glorious views over the valley and the birds which visit are many & varied. Large birds of prey (buzzards & red kites) can be seen circling overhead.

Location and activities.

Cwmhiraeth is a 5 minute drive from Newcastle Emlyn which in turn is 45 minutes south of Aberysthwyth, 30 minutes east of Fishguard and 60 minutes north of Tenby. Newcastle Emlyn offers a variety of shops, super markets, cafes, fast food outlets & pubs. There is also an excellent Indian Restaurant.
The River Teifi which rises above Tregaron, in the Cambrian Mountains, flows through Newcastle Emlyn on its way to the sea at Cardigan (AberTeifi) a distance of over 70 miles.
The surrounding area is stunning and walks can be taken from the cottages. The sandy beaches of Cardigan Bay are only 20 minutes away offering safe bathing and surfing. Some beaches are also well suited to sea fishing.
.
Dolphins and seals can be found off the coast and seal pups can often be seen at Cwm Tydu Cove and along the coast in the autumn. Seals have also been known to travel up the River Teifi to the falls at Cenarth where they found a ready meal of Salmon and Sewin. This caused much consternation to the local fishermen but was a hit with the holiday makers. Fortunately, for the fishermen, this was a rare occurrence.

The Pembrokeshire Coastal path is also nearby and is very popular with walkers as is the beautiful town of Newport with its 9 hole golf course and yachting club.
Travelling further down the coast one finds the smallest city in the UK, St. Davids which has a cathedral but is smaller than Newcastle Emlyn.

The nearby rivers Teifi, Towy, Cothi and Nevern offer excellent fishing for Salmon & Sewin (Sea Trout). Day and weekly tickets are readily available
and affordable ghillie services can be obtained. There is also canoeing available on the River Teifi

There are a number of golf courses in the area and the visiting golfer is more than welcome.
One of the most beautiful and driest is Cardigan Golf Club at Gwbert.

There are three steam railways nearby.
The Rhiedol Steam Railway (which runs from Aberystwyth to Devils Bridge),
Henllan Steam railway (10 minutes away) and the steam railway at Carmarthen (about 15 minutes away)
